Symptoms of Parkinson's disease

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disease characterized by loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra leading to symptoms of tremor, rigidity and slowed movement, and is the second most disease. Over 20 genes have been associated with PD or parkinsonism in recent years, and the largest genome wide association studies for PD risk have identified 92 PD risk variants across 80 loci, explaining 16-36% of the heritable risk of PD
There is an ongoing digital revolution in the field of Parkinson's disease (PD) for the objective measurement of motor aspects, to be used in clinical trials and possibly support therapeutic choices. The focus of remote technologies is now also slowly shifting towards the broad but more “hidden” spectrum of non-motor symptoms (NMS common neurodegenerative disease in the world. Both sporadic and familial forms of PD exist, and much work has been done to identify the environmental and genetic risk factors behind this).
Unlike motor symptoms, non-motor features of PD are difficult to measure directly using remote digital technologies. Nonetheless, it is currently possible to reliably measure several NMS and further digital technology developments are underway to offer further capture of often under-reported and under-recognised NMS.
